The argument that started this site was about a single knob. A popular forum thread was debating whether the decay circuit on a mid-priced analog drum machine 'felt' different from its predecessor, and three hundred posts in, nobody had cited a single published specification, a single oscillator topology diagram, or a single aggregated owner report. Everyone was trading impressions with no shared reference point. That gap—between the enormous enthusiasm people bring to drum synthesis and the thin, poorly organized information available to support real purchase decisions—is what drumsynthesizer.com exists to close.
What I bring to this is a researcher's disposition applied to a producer's subject matter. I follow resale price curves on Reverb because they reveal what the market actually thinks of a product three years after the hype cycle. I synthesize that material so readers don't have to spend forty hours doing it themselves.
Every article on this site is built from a documented evidence base: published specifications, aggregated owner-reported behavior, independent reviewer consensus, and cost-per-use calculations that account for resale value. When owners consistently report that a particular envelope circuit is sluggish at low velocities, that finding appears here with sourcing. When published specs show that two competing modules share an identical voice architecture at a $400 price difference, that comparison gets made plainly. The methodology is transparent and repeatable—readers are encouraged to interrogate it.
